CAVE “BELI MAJDAN” – Rakovac

CAVE “BELI MAJDAN” – Rakovac

It is a mine from which stone was dug out up 1937, kaolin granite, which was mostly used for making tombstones, foundations of houses and probably also for construction of the nearby monastery Rakovac. The hall is about 3-4 meters high, the entrance is a few dozen of meters wide, and it stretches into the depth the same. It is located on sloping terrain. The vault is held by huge stone “pillars”, left behind after digging and hewing the stone. On many places the traces of stone blocks, which were dug out from there, are visible. You can reach the cave as you go from the direction of Beočin, turn left on the first dirt road after Rakovac Monastery, and then turn left after a couple of hundred of meters. The road with a lot of climbs leads right to the cave. The other way to reach the cave is to set off from the Partizan Monument. Behind the spring, there are steep stone steps which are followed by a winding trail, which will take you right to the entrance of the cave after five minutes of walk.
