Početna / Experiences / THE REFORMATIVE CHURCH – Debeljača
The reformative community of Hungarian christian reformative church in Debeljača belongs to one of the oldest christian communities in Kovačica and was founded in 1799., in the centre of the village, while there was the priest Tar Janoš.
The building of the first church started in 1804. The first church was burnt in the fire in 1830. So the new one was built with a huge help of the authorities. That is how was made the new, much bigger church which was finished in 1838. This building suffered all the historical happenings in this village, but it was always kept and regularly renovated. This reformative church has 800 seats, so it was the biggest in former SFRJ. The inner and outside look of the church is characteristic for the reformative churches., whit white and relief walls, without church decorations characteristic for other churches.
The project for its building was made by a Russian architect. There are the organs in it even today from 1871., which were made by the craftsman from Segedin, Janoš Kovač, with 16 registers. The tower is 76 meters high and there are three bells on it.
