THE CHURCH OF JESUS HEART – Apatin

THE CHURCH OF JESUS HEART – Apatin

This holy object was built in the pseudo – Romanic style in period of 1931 – 1933. It represents the biggest catholic church built on the area of Bačka between two world wars. The plans for it were made by Wien architect Bruno Buhvizer, and the builder was Nikola Šefer from Apatin, who was for some time the president of the craft organization in Apatin.

The church is three nave building, with two towers ( 38m high) which go up on its front part, and they end with roof like the pyramids.

The main entrance is emphasized with the Romanic, gradually built portal, and above it is the rosette with the kettledrum.

Because the Second World War started works on the inside decoration and mobiliar were stopped, so it stayed unfinished in some parts ( it was planned to do the painting decoration with religious scenes).

After the recent restoration, the lightening hit the very top of the right belfry, and then the fire caught the inside wooden construction (consequence of no lightening rod).
