The statue dedicated to the film boxer Rocky Balboa is probably one of the most famous statues in Serbia, known worldwide. The idea to erect the statue came as a creative marketing initiative by a group of young people from Žitište, aiming to promote their town and highlight the need for greater activism and decision-making among youth in society. The primary goal was to make the initiative to raise a statue of Rocky Balboa—recognized as a symbol of persistence and the desire for success—known throughout Serbia and the surrounding region.

However, the creation and unveiling of the statue attracted unprecedented attention not only from domestic but also numerous international media. There is more than 70,000 published web pages, 140 accredited media outlets, and 12,000 people who attended the official unveiling during the “Chicken Fest” event demonstrate that the idea had a global impact.

Constructed using modeled concrete and standing over three meters tall, the statue of Rocky Balboa, with arms raised triumphantly, symbolizes how a group of young people decided to influence their environment and their lives in a completely unique and unconventional way. Placed in the center of Žitište, the statue greets curious travelers who often stop to take photos in front of it, imitating Rocky’s victorious raised-arm pose.
