PLACE OF THE BATTLE FROM THE YEAR 1691 – Stari Slankamen
The Austrian army led by Prince Ludwig of Baden won the victory over the Turks at the foot of Fruska Gora near Slankamen on August 19th 1691. The Turks retreated towards Belgrade because they had lost 2,000 soldiers in the battle, as well as, a grand vizier, Mustafa Cuprilic. Approximately 1,000 Serbs led by Jovan Monasterlija participated in the battle on Austrian side. As the reminiscent of the battle, a monument was built in 1892.
