MEMORIAL MUSEUM “ĐURA JAKŠIĆ” – Srpska Crnja

The Memorial Museum of Đura Jakšić is located in the Banat village of Srpska Crnja, right on the Romanian border. It was opened in 1980 in the birthplace of the great Romantic artist, a house built in the typical Pannonian style at the beginning of the 19th century. Đura Jakšić’s birthplace is a cultural monument of great significance.

The poet and painter Đura Jakšić (1832–1878) left behind an extensive gallery of portraits, around twenty icons, and a similar number of compositions depicting themes from medieval and modern Serbian history. The Đura Jakšić Memorial Museum in Crnja has a new exhibition. High-quality reproductions of his most significant works, preserved in the National Museum in Belgrade, can be seen in Đura’s birthplace in Crnja (in addition to the originals, which are kept in the church across the street).

The curators of the National Museum in Zrenjanin selected the most important poems and excerpts from his prose for inclusion in the historical-artistic collections. An ethnological collection has also been established. Within the birthplace, in the gallery space, works by contemporary artists are also exhibited.

Working Hours: Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
