“MARCIBÁNYI–KARAČONYI” CASTLE – Sremska Kamenica

“MARCIBÁNYI–KARAČONYI” CASTLE – Sremska Kamenica

The castle was built in stages at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century (from 1797 to 1811). Even today, there is a plaque above the entrance stating that the castle was built by the noble Marcibányi de Puho family.

The Spanish king Philip stayed in this castle. From the 19th century until the beginning of the 20th century (until 1918), the castle was owned by the Karačonyi family. The buildings received their present appearance after reconstruction and expansion between 1834 and 1836, when the estate changed ownership.

The castle is a cultural monument of great importance. Today, the castle is used by the Faculty for European Legal and Political Studies.

The castle is not open to visitors.
