“KRUG” GALLERY – Bečej
Početna / Experiences / “KRUG” GALLERY – Bečej
Within the activities of the Bečej City Theatre, there is also a gallery function, as the building houses an exhibition space that operates as a city gallery (hereinafter referred to as Gallery Krug).
Gallery Krug has been active since 1992, although it is not yet formally registered. It consists of two rooms—a smaller one measuring 5×5 m² and a larger one 10×4 m²—illuminated by 14 reflectors of 300W each. Exhibitions are organized once or twice a month, depending on the duration of the show, usually two to three weeks. At the beginning of September, a call for applications is announced for the right to exhibit in the gallery space. The invitation covers all areas of artistic interest: painting, printmaking, photography, installation, performance, video art, and, less frequently, sculpture due to the lack of pedestals. Exhibitors are provided with a standard-format 15×15 cm full-color catalog and a formal opening, while transportation costs are borne by the exhibitors themselves.
Since the gallery is a municipal institution, it also serves the citizens of Bečej. Local painters—often amateurs—are given the opportunity to exhibit, although the gallery primarily aims to feature academic artists. Notable artists who have exhibited here include Pavle Blesić, Viktor Škrabanj, Ratko Šoć, Milivoj Nikolajević, and, among the younger generation, Danilo Vuksanović, Danijel Babić, Vlado Njaradi, Darko Malenica, Maja Erdeljanin, and many others.
In addition to solo exhibitions, the gallery hosts group shows, often featuring works created during artistic colonies or by associations (e.g., the Kolut-Mandić Art Colony, Tisza Watercolor Academy from Novi Bečej, the “Esnaf” Art Association from Sremska Mitrovica, and the “Ars in Ligno” Woodcarving Association). The gallery has also hosted special presentations by foreign embassies, including those of Brazil and Canada.
