VELIKA GOSPOJINA (THE CELEBRATION OF THE DORMITION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD) IN NOVI BEČEJ

At the end of August every year Novi Bečej is flooded with visitors to the beautifully decorated quay to enjoy the performances of music stars in honour of the city “slava” – patron saint’s day – Velika Gospojina (the Dormition of the Mother of God). In addition to being the religious holiday and the slava of the town, this event has grown into a top-notch celebration that combines the traditional and contemporary and gathers older and younger audiences. The parade of horse carriages in combination with concerts, cooking fish soup, ethno bazaar, children’s street, agriculture-fest … is a trademark of Novi Bečej.
