Since the beginning of the pandemic, work from home has become more common and a motivator for many to go a step further, leave their homes and work from other places / even destinations. Some countries have recognized this trend as an opportunity to increase the influx of tourists, by offering this target group the conditions for a more permanent stay. These are digital nomads, a term that came into use in 2014 to denote freelance designers, developers, entrepreneurs and writers who traveled from the West to Southeast Asia or Eastern Europe. In that way, in a lower cost of living context, they worked in a more relaxed manner, and still earned above average. All you need for this type of work is a mobile phone, a laptop, a good Wi-Fi signal and, of course, a clear work plan.

In Serbia and Vojvodina, for several years now, there has been an oasis for this type of tourists - digital nomads in Mokrin of all places, a small village in Vojvodina near Kikinda, and it is called Mokrin House.

Mokrin House is an urban spot in a rural setting that provides state-of-the-art facilities for the seamless integration of creative work and relaxation. This space offers accommodation and accompanying services created to present a dynamic but also relaxed atmosphere intended for individuals and teams. The central house-building on the estate dates from 1925 and offers accommodation in 5 comfortable rooms with private bathrooms. On the ground floor there is a living room with a library, a projector and a screen for movie nights, as well as a spacious porch intended for socializing, working and relaxing with a plant hall. In the second house there is a modern and minimalist reduced space intended for meetings, workshops and presentations. The third house called House 23 presents the largest accommodation facility intended mainly for groups.

Mokrin House organizes additional activities such as wine tastings, cocktail workshops, five-course dinners paired with wines, craft beer brewing workshops, yoga classes, archery, knitting, etc.

This type of travel and tourism has seen increased demand, even the founder of Nomad List, Peter Levels, pointed out that the pandemic intensified the freelancing trend. Nomad List is a well-known website that was launched in 2014 and offers information on destinations that are most favorable for the life of digital nomads. For now, Novi Sad is one of the destinations in Vojvodina, but we are sure that this type of tourism has great potential in the entire province.

By the way, Levels predicts that in the future more and more digital nomads will stay in one destination in the long run. Such a trend is more likely compared to movement from one destination to the next, which will greatly affect the global economy and tourism development.
