We are approaching the end of 2020, which was turbulent for the global economy, testing the nations’ economies, due to the situation with the corona virus. Tourism has not escaped this crisis, as one of the industries most affected by the new situation. Data on the number of tourists who visited Vojvodina in the first two months of 2020 show that this year would have been a year of the record number of visits by both domestic and foreign tourists. However, the epidemiological situation has stopped this upward trajectory of tourist travel.
Since the beginning of 2020, the Tourism Organization of Vojvodina has actively participated in international tourism events. In January, it promoted the tourist offer of AP Vojvodina at the International Fairs in Vienna (Ferien-Messe), Stuttgart (CMT Stuttgart), Bratislava (ITF SLOVAKIATOUR 2020), Istanbul (EMITT 2020), Ljubljana (Alpe Adria), Budapest (UTAZAS 2020), Sofia (HOLIDAY & SPA EXPO 2020), Belgrade. This year, the Days of Vojvodina were held in Budapest, Belgrade and Republika Srpska (Zvornik). During the state of emergency, the Touristm Organization of Vojvodina organized a campaign to promote Vojvodina on social networks called “Sail the Pannonian Sea”. Within this project, the Tourism Organization of Vojvodina the tourist attractions in Vojvodina through digital platforms to the social media account followers. In July, as a final activity of the IDENTIS project, a promotion for the media and tourism industry was realized. The IDENTIS project was implemented by the Tourism Organization of Vojvodina, as the leading partner in the project, with partners from the Hungarian county of Csongrád. The results of the IDENTIS project are a unique database of municipalities and cities (with all its tourist facilities) along the Tisza River, both on the Serbian and Hungarian sides, then the strategic document “Tourism Development Strategy of the Tisa Region and Action Plan 2019–2023”, a promo film that presents the tourist offer of the Tisa region in an attractive way. Also, the project that was implemented during the summer months of 2020 was called “Vacation – the Vojvodina Way”. Namely, due to the situation with the corona virus, it was not possible to organize promo trips for media as in previous years during which Tourism Organization of Vojvodina team presented the tourism offer of cities and municipalities in Vojvodina such as natural, cultural sights, gastronomy, accommodation suggestions and activities. This activity moved online to the social media platforms. This campaign drew great public interest and was one of the reasons for the increased visit of domestic tourists to Vojvodina during the summer months.
In September, the Tourism Organization of Vojvodina presented the tourist offer of Vojvodina within the World Tourism Day at Ada Ciganlija, respecting all public health measures. The autumn months were marked by numerous online conferences, forums, where the director of the Tourism Organization of Vojvodina was an active participant (conference marking the European Heritage Days, Competitiveness Forum 2020, Winter 2020/2021: How destinations in the Region are Preparing for the Season, Belgrade Tourism & MICE, RE-SET SUMMIT, Food talk 2020). In November, the Tourism Organization of Vojvodina hosted leading tour operators from Russia.
In the year now behind us we faced many challenges, changed the habits of tourists, shaped the business of service providers in accordance with the new situation, redirected most of the business to modern digital technologies, but also influenced better coordination of all segments of the tourism industry to overcome the problems caused by the crisis caused by the corona virus pandemic. The Tourism Organization of Vojvodina will continue to actively work on the promotion of the tourist offer of AP Vojvodina and cooperate with all tourist entities to improve the tourism of the Province.
