Početna / Experiences / “TITELSKI BREG” SPECIAL NATURE RESERVE
The “Titelski Breg” Special Nature Reserve is located in Vojvodina, in the southeastern part of Bačka, within the municipality of Titel. It represents an isolated loess hill, with an elliptical shape resulting from the erosional activity of the Danube and Tisa rivers, as it extends along the right bank of the lower course of the Tisa River, near its confluence with the Danube.
Titelski Breg is a unique natural phenomenon, rich in loess landforms, flora, and fauna. Many scientists consider it the most interesting loess plateau in Central Europe. Ravines, hanging valleys, loess “scars,” and pyramidal formations preserve the story of the hill’s formation over a period of approximately 600,000 years.
Whether due to its geological and geomorphological features, numerous archaeological sites, or local legends and myths, Titelski Breg is also known as the “Witness Hill.” The area is dominated by steppe vegetation of relict character. As an important botanical area, it is included in the national IPA network of Central and Eastern Europe.
Due to its significant ornithological value, Titelski Breg is listed as an Important Bird Area (IBA) of international importance. The uniqueness of the “Titelski Breg” Special Nature Reserve as a steppe area in the immediate vicinity of three rivers and two confluences (the confluence of the Begej and Tisa, and the Tisa and Danube) provides opportunities for various forms of tourism, including individual and group visits.
The manager of the “Titelski Breg” Special Nature Reserve is the Public Institution for Nature Protection “Titelski Breg,” which also performs tourism-related activities and provides all necessary information for visiting Titel and Titelski Breg.
