“TITELSKI BREG” SPECIAL NATURE RESERVE

Titelski Breg is located in Vojvodina, in the south-eastern part of Bačka, within the municipality of Titel. It is an isolated loess upland, elliptical in shape as a result of the erosive action of the waters of the Danube and Tisa rivers. It stretches along the right bank of the lower course of the Tisa, not far from its confluence with the Danube. Titelski Breg is a unique natural phenomenon, rich in loess formations, flora and fauna, and is considered by many scientists to be the most interesting loess plateau in Central Europe. Gullies, hanging valleys, loess ravines and pyramids preserve the secrets of the formation of this upland over a period of some 600,000 years.

Whether because of its geological and geomorphological features, its numerous archaeological sites, or its legends and local myths, Titelski Breg is also known as the “Witness Hill”. The area is dominated by relic steppe vegetation. As an important botanical area, it has been included in the national IPA network for Central and Eastern Europe.

Due to its outstanding ornithological value, Titelski Breg has been included on the list of areas of international importance for bird fauna as an IBA (Important Bird and Biodiversity Area). The uniqueness of the “Titelski Breg” Special Nature Reserve as a steppe area in the immediate vicinity of three rivers and two confluences—the confluence of the Begej and Tisa rivers, and that of the Tisa and Danube—provides opportunities for various forms of tourism, including individual and group visits.

The “Titelski Breg” Special Nature Reserve is managed by UZP “Titelski Breg”, an institution that also carries out tourism-related activities and provides all the necessary information for visits to Titel and Titelski Breg.

The Information and Visitor Centre of the “Titelski Breg” Special Nature Reserve is the starting point for your journey through one of the oldest and most picturesque settlements in Vojvodina. This is where your treasure hunt begins, as does the first step towards solving the Titel riddle. Using the interactive model, you can learn about this isolated loess plateau and the most significant plant species found in the “Titelski Breg” Special Nature Reserve. At the diorama display, you will encounter loess dolls, loess ravines, Europe’s largest bird and the curious eyes of sousliks.

The Information and Visitor Centre also provides information about the catering and accommodation options available in the municipality of Titel. Here, you can purchase authentic souvenirs, while the approximately 40-seat hall hosts lectures and creative workshops for different age groups.

For individual visitors, the Information and Visitor Centre is open on weekdays from 7 am to 3 pm.
