The opening conference of the project “Wine Heritage Culture: Sustainable Tourism Development Across Borders” was held on Thursday, March 12, at the Interpretation Centre in Karanac.

The conference presented the project and its planned activities aimed at developing sustainable wine tourism in the cross-border region of Baranja in Croatia and Srem in Serbia.

The project is implemented within the Interreg VI-A IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Croatia–Serbia, with the Municipality of Kneževi Vinogradi as the lead partner. In addition to the Municipality of Kneževi Vinogradi, project partners include the Osijek-Baranja County Tourist Board, the Croatian Association for Tourism and Rural Development “Club Members Village,” the Municipality of Sremski Karlovci, and the Tourism Organisation of Vojvodina.

The total value of the project is approximately €915,000, with an implementation period of 24 months. The main objective of the project is the valorisation of the wine and cultural heritage of Baranja in Croatia and Srem in Serbia through the development of sustainable and socially innovative tourism, as well as the creation of long-term positive impacts in the cross-border area.

The project includes a range of activities focused on improving tourism infrastructure, developing new tourism products, and strengthening the promotion of wine heritage. Planned activities include the installation of public lighting along the Katolički Surduk wine road in Zmajevac, as well as the revitalisation and improvement of the wine route in Sremski Karlovci, connecting local wineries and cultural landmarks.

In addition to infrastructure-related activities, the project will include the installation of artistic installations, the development of sustainable mobility solutions for visitors, the creation of an AR application for the interpretation of wine and cultural heritage, and the establishment of a network of wine destinations called the “Wine Circle.”

The project also предусматриes the organisation of wine events, professional conferences and training sessions, study visits, as well as the implementation of promotional campaigns and the development of promotional materials, all aimed at increasing the visibility of cross-border wine destinations on the international tourism market.

All these activities are directed towards strengthening cross-border cooperation and fostering the development of sustainable tourism based on rich wine and cultural heritage, thereby contributing to the further tourism and economic development of the cross-border region.
