Fourth SCOM meeting of the CAST Project

From March 17th to 19th, the fourth SCOM meeting of the CAST project took place in Novi Sad and Sremski Karlovci, bringing together 13 partners from 10 countries. Over two intensive working days, participants exchanged experiences, presented the progress of project activities, and explored the region’s tourism and cultural offerings.

The working sessions were held during the mornings of both days, featuring partner reports, analysis of previous results, and the definition of next steps in project implementation. These workshops, organized around the project’s thematic areas, were essential for coordination and further development of project activities. Participants discussed key topics such as accessibility, shared values, and evaluation methods, and analyzed results from previously conducted interviews. Poster sessions provided a platform for direct exchange of ideas and suggestions related to cultural heritage and social values promoted by the project. Workshops then moved into practical work, focusing on planning pilot activities. Guided by the expert team, partners collaboratively completed implementation plans for pilot projects in their countries, clarifying next steps and concretizing ideas.

In addition to the working sessions, a study program of destination visits was organized.

On the first day, participants visited Sremski Karlovci, one of Serbia’s most significant cultural and historical sites. The program included a visit to the Živanović Winery and the Krušedol Monastery, highlighting the region’s rich spiritual heritage. Participants also visited the Radulovački Ecological Center, learning about its work in youth education, environmental protection, and community development. The center now serves as a space for workshops, training sessions, and group stays.

The day continued with a guided walk through the town center, including visits to Karlovci Grammar School, one of the oldest educational institutions in Serbia, and the Patriarchal Court, an important cultural and historical landmark.

On the second day, after the morning sessions in Novi Sad, participants explored the city’s key tourist attractions. The program included visits to Petrovaradin Fortress, the City Museum, a special exhibition dedicated to Mileva Marić Einstein, and the Tourist Information Center, where participants learned about presenting the destination to visitors. The day concluded with a city tour and a visit to the Gallery of Matica Srpska, one of the country’s most important cultural institutions.

This meeting provided an important opportunity not only to advance project activities but also to give partners direct insight into the richness of the region’s cultural heritage and tourism assets. Such gatherings, besides supporting project implementation, play a crucial role in promoting destinations and strengthening international cooperation.

The transnational CAST project (Culture trAnSforming communiTies and economies) aims to leverage the rich cultural heritage of the Danube region to enhance social inclusion and stimulate economic growth as part of the green transition.
