THE ROMAN CATHOLIC RECTORY CHURCH OF ST. ROCK – Petrovaradin

The Church of St. Rock is situated in the part of Petrovaradin called Novi Majur. It was built in 1808. Whole administration about the early history of this church was burnt in the Hungarian revolution in 1849., during the fight between the Hungarian revolutionary and Serbian and Croatian groups which were under Josip Jelačić command.

From the church leads the old cross like road to Calvary, or the under ground chapel which symbolizes the hill Golgota and Jesus` tomb. The Calvary itself is ruined today. It has become useless after fast inhabiting in the area, so the new cross like road was built on Tekije. Above the chapel there were three crucifixions, even damaged, they stand today.
