MONUMENT TO BURNED BOOK – Irig
During the Second World War, the library and archives of the Reading Room has been to a large extent destroyed-burnt. Thus, everything that had for decades been kept in this ancient institution is destroyed in the fire forever. Due to the 150th anniversary of its existence and work Reading Room gets new premises. In front of the Serbian Reading Room and the House of Culture in Irig, there is a unique monument dedicated both to burnt book and to the burning of the library funds and archives. White marble monument symbolizes the phoenix or the indestructibility of people and its culture.
