“HADIK” CASTLE – Futog

“HADIK” CASTLE – Futog

The Futog estate, owned by the Čarnojević family from 1744 to 1770, was one of the largest estates in the Bačka region. The estate was later purchased by Count Andreas Hadik, who built a castle on it in 1777 according to the design of Franciscus de Paola Maneth.

Count Andreas Hadik was an Austrian field marshal and the president of the Imperial War Council in Vienna. In 1805, the estate came into the possession of the Kotek noble family and remained their property until 1922. The estate was then purchased by Count Franz Schönborn, and during the Second World War it belonged to Count Alexander Pallavicini until 1944, when the castle was converted into a hospital for the wounded from the Syrmian Front.

To this day, the castle has largely preserved its original appearance as one of the oldest noble residences in Vojvodina. Later modifications mainly concerned interior arrangements and certain changes in the decorative program of the facades, which did not significantly alter its original Baroque architectural concept as a representative building constructed for a distinguished owner.

The castle was declared a cultural monument in 2001. Today, a secondary agricultural school is located in the castle.

The castle is not open to visitors.
