The Žabalj municipality is situated in the south-east of Bačka, close to the Tisa river. It encompasses the following settlements: Žabalj, Čurug, Đurđevo and Gospođinci. It covers an area of 405 square kilometres.
The municipality is positioned on the crossroads of Bačka and Banat. Žabalj is connected to Zrenjanin by the L-7 local route and with Temerin by the R-104 regional road. Also, the R-122 regional road (Šajkaš-Bačko Gradište) and M-7 main road (Novi Sad-Zrenjanin) pass through Žabalj.
The municipality’s territory is rich with waterways: the rivers Tisa, Dead Tisa, and Jegrička and an extensive network of canals which are the part of the Danube-Tisa-Danube canal system. The municipality’s population is 25.777 people.
