THE CHURCH OF ST. NICHOLAS – Krčedin

The temple of translation of the relics of the Holy Father Nicholas was built in 1781. It was consecrated by Metropolitan Vićentije. It was built as a single-nave church with apse at the east end and a bell tower over the western part of the building .The facade of the church is divided into a low skirting pilasters and molded roof cornice. The present appearance of the church generates from the early nineteenth century. The fence around the church is made of wrought iron with beautiful ornaments as the gate itself. In the church yard there are a lot of fir trees and silver pines , while in the front of the church there are three limes. On the left front of the church there is an old stone cross surrounded by a wrought iron fence with an inscription. The iconostasis was repeatedly pictured and it belongs to the multi-store altar partition type. It was done by Edward Vladarš , Dimitrije Lazarević and Teodor Vitković. The author of the paintings is Peter Kambera (1843) and the cantor’s stand the work of art of the wood – carver Marko Vujatović (1806).

During the Second World War the bells were removed from the church and melted into cannons. Unless the Germans made their own church their priests and believers were using Serbian church for public worship. There is a rich library of religious books. The conservation and restoration works were carried out in 1973. The renovation of the interior of the temple and cleaning of the carved iconostasis parts were executed in 1981.

The church gained the status of cultural monument of great importance in 1972, and it was categorized in 1991.
