CASTLE “SZECHENYI” – Temerin

The castle in Temerin gives the special seal to the history and culture of this area. The walls old more than two centuries remember a lot of important happenings, a lot of important people spend some time here and famous families lived here. This is high floor object with simple style characteristics, elegant and simple baroque classicism. The residential noble object is one of rare which are kept in the original shape. The castle was built by the family Sečen in 1795. The family Sečen sold Temerin and Kaštel to merchant Antal Fernbah from Apatin. Ana and Petar Fernbah were his heirs and the whole Temerin was their till the Agrar reform of the Kingdom of Serbians, Croats and Slovenians in 1920. The best gardeners made beautiful park in the time of Sečen, which was later enlarged by the Fernbah on ten acres. The wall of bricks and trench hid the park from the outer world. The gardens were full of flowers, decorative plants and water fountains. Since the beginning of the 20th century the garden planted by chosen and unusual trees are decorating with fountain and different sculptures. The Temerin castle is as the important culture monument in 1949. put on the protection of state, while the park is protected in 1977. Today in the castle is secondary school “Lukijan Mušicki”.
