Domboš Fest is a world music festival that was first held in 2001 in the Vojvodina town of Mali Iđoš. The festival takes place in a former clay mine surrounded by natural loess walls. After serving as a landfill site for decades, the area was given a new life through the festival and transformed into a unique cultural venue.
The festival program primarily features performers from Serbia and Hungary who play contemporary ethno music and jazz, although many internationally acclaimed artists have also performed on the stage of the “Street Below the Hill.” Genre-wise, the festival consistently embraces diversity and experimentation, while maintaining artistic quality as its foremost criterion.
The festival also includes the Gastronomic Courtyard, where visitors can enjoy cakes and savory pastries baked in the famous oven located in the “chapel.” In addition, guests can sample traditional dishes, delicious mekike (fried dough pastries), homemade products, craft beer, and local wines from the region.
A companion event of Domboš Fest is the literary festival “Domboš Stories Remix”, which brings prominent contemporary writers to Mali Iđoš to participate in book presentations, panel discussions, and literary debates.
During the festival, young painters, sculptors, and graphic artists take part in an art colony called “Domboš Visual.” The works created during the residency seek to reinterpret and re-examine the artistic traditions of Vojvodina.
Domboš Fest is also connected to the “Domboš Wine Club,” a social venue and café built in a traditional style within a cellar carved into the loess hillside. Throughout the year, visitors can experience the distinctive Domboš lifestyle and atmosphere there.
