BAČKA PALANKA

On the left bank of the Danube, across from the ancient city of Ilok, lies Bačka Palanka. The municipality includes Obrovac, Karađorđevo, Tovariševo, Mladenovo, Čelarevo, Gajdobra, Nova Gajdobra, Silbaš, Parage, Despotovo, Pivnice and two places in Srem, Neštin and Vizić.

Numerous legends are connected to this municipality, starting from the very origin of the name of the place, which according to tradition originated from the fact that the beautiful Anka lived in this area in the 11th century, and when she died everyone shouted "Pala Anka" (Anka has fallen) so the present name of this place came into being. Another assumption is that the name of the place originates from the period of Turkish rule, because there are no reliable data on how the name Bačka Palanka came about.

Nature has made sure that this municipality is rich in many natural attractions that attract the attention of visitors, which are at the same time in line with the sustainable development of tourism. This territory is where Bagremar and Karađorđevo Nature Reserves, Tikvara Nature Park, a smaller part of the Fruška Gora National Park and the Čelarevo Castle Park Nature Monument are located.

Also, the Danube River with its beautiful landscaped banks attracts the attention of visitors. Bačka Palanka is a municipality where you can enjoy recreation, excursions, sport fishing, bird watching, horseback riding, visits to cultural monuments and many other activities.

Čelarevo is the first destination one comes across in the municipality of Bačka Palanka heading from the direction of Novi Sad. Here lies the Dunđerski Castle, which was bought by Count Dunđerski in 1882 where he set up the first brewery in Serbia two years later. The story of the love of Lenka Dunđerski and Laza Kostić, which was not to be, is also linked to the castle. Today, next to the castle, there is the Beer Museum with samples of Serbian beer from the 19th century and where the entire history of the brewery's business at the time is presented.

In Bačka Palanka there are numerous churches, cultural institutions, as well as the Guinness cauldron, which is a special tourist attraction.

What is certainly a not to be missed destination when visiting Bačka Palanka is the Karađorđevo Stud Farm, located in the Karađorđevo Nature Reserve, built in 1880. Today, the stable is run by the Ministry of Defense. Within the complex, there is a museum that faithfully depicts the image of past times when the stable was in full glory.

A significant cultural asset is located in Neštin, which also belongs to the municipality of Bačka Palanka, and that is the Srem House Museum, where the life of Vojvodina Serbs from the 18th century is authentically presented.
