The current church community was founded by the reformers who settled from Kunhegyes in 1785. Some of them moved here from Tisabur. These settlers came from poor social strata. The settlement was approved by Joseph II’s decree from 25th November 1784. Right upon the arrival our ancestors called for and got the right to free reformed religion. The exact date of founding the church is not known, but the first entry in the birth register happened on 29th May 1785. Although they came as an already formed church community, with their own priest, they had some difficulties with activation of church life after all. For public masses a temporary dome was built out of fresh brick. The present church was built in 1802. The first parish was built by the followers in the year right after the settlement. The current parish building for gatherings dates form 1877. The latest building for the priests was built in 1981. Up to now fourteen priests have served here, and the current one is the fifteenth. Special attention should be dedicated to Šandor Agošton (1882-1960), a resident, who apart from 40 years of service organized The Yugoslav Reformed Christian Church where he was a bishop all his life, and led it wisely. Our church community was more than once the residence of the bishop and the state center of the Church, from 1933 to 1960, with minor discontinuities, from 1982 to 1996 and from 1997 until this day. The number of active followers and members is approximately 2300.
