The delicacies, from Vojvodina are mouthwatering even at the sight, and when consumed, satisfy all the senses. These got their name not only because they are sweet tasting but also because they are pure sweetness and joy! Desserts in the form of one of the many sweets – cakes, pastries, pancakes, plum dumplings, floating islands, dumplings with jam, leaves, donuts, sweet gibanica pie or strudel – are an important, sometimes even more impressive part of lunch or dinner than the overall gastronomic pleasure. Experiences during consumption are reminiscent of the ambience of plains, inland dunes and hilly slopes of rare Vojvodina mountains, but they also reach to the past – towards the courts of Vienna and Budapest, but also the near and far Orient, which still leave a mark in local gastronomy.
There is nothing left to crave for – guests often say after enjoying the rich Vojvodina tables, alluding to a large selection of dishes. Well, there is one more thing! A dessert made of milk, eggs, sugar and some flour is often the highlight of a long “train” of great dishes. There is no Serbian name for it. The unforgettable desert got its name after the translation from Hungarian, and from German, translated as snow rolls, which is mostly domesticated in the Serbian language.
