The first Catholic Church, on the place of the existing one, was built in 1783. It was built out of charge, with the reeve roof, without a tower or a cross. The same year the rectory was built. The church belonged to the parish of Stari Bečej. For the costs of keeping the parish, the monarchy gave church 32 cadastre acres of land, in Preko Bare and in Razlevine. The first rector was P. Salkau Bernat, Franciscan priest, who accepted the responsibility to take care of the believers. This is when the school started working as well. Since 1785 the parish register books of Sentomas Catholics had regularly been kept until they were burnt in 1848-49. With the rise in number of population the parish grew stronger so that in 1814-15 new church was built, in dimensions 44.5x11.5 meters, with a tower and a cross 24 meters high. The new church then got its name The Church of the Holy Cross. Up to 1848, Sentomaš was characterized as a town in progress and with quiet life. That year the church was burnt and the Hungarian population was banished. Only around 1852-53, after the years of war, people started returning to their destroyed and burnt homes. In the same years they also started the restoration of the burnt church and rectory. The church was completely renovated and painted in 1868. It is most likely that the two paintings done by Mor, found near the alter date from this period. One painting presents All Saints, and the other St. Thomas. In 1869 the construction of the chapel atCalvary started. Calvary was completely finished in 1870. During 1886 and 1887 the church was added one small nave, and it got its current looks in 1901-02, when a new tower was built and the roof was replaced. The same year the new organ, made by Orsag Šandora, were put up, and in 1952 painter Ružička Pal made the four ceiling paintings, which even today adorn the big nave of the church.
