NATIONAL LIBRARY - Plandište

The library started it’s work in poor conditions. Today the great effort was made, with the budget funds, necessary office material was bought, and by enlargement it got the reading room with eight places for reading. The biggest move was made in book supply. The starting fund was more than modest, the supply was based only on individual book- gifts and of some offices and from the budget resourses they bought more than 6000 books, so today at the bookshelves in the library there are about 12.500 titles. The structure of the books is adjusted to demands of the readers. According to the statistics made in 2004., from 11.350 books which were in the library at 31.12.2004., 8708 were of Serbian and international literature, 2235 were reference books, expert books and scientific and populist literature and 1557 children books. The library has a lot of reference books of agriculture, annual publishing of a big Agricultural calendar and there is a plan for annual dues for at least one magazine in this field. In the field of reference , expert and scientific and populist literature there are a lot of books about religion, psychology, history as well as the politics. In the field of Serbian and international literature, specially novels, there are a lot of hits and megahits in the library. In the field of children literature there are a lot of picture books, children encyclopedias, obliged literature for primary and secondary school. One of the most important activities of the library is the purchase of periodical- daily and weekly newspapers, expert and populist magazines. In 2005 Dnevnik and Politika are purchased, of weekly newspapers- NIN and Zabavnik , of experts Notebooks (magazine for the literature, art and culture), Pančevačko Čitalište (the newspapers of City library in Pančevo) as well as the Ortothodox- informator of Serbian Orthodox Church. Regularly, as the free copy, the reading room gets settlement informators of Plandište, Alibunar and Pančevo. Also as a free copy it gets the informator of Matica Srpska, "Misao" as well as the magazine "B-92". The National Library Plandište from the time it was found works on gathering of homeland material. The library has a lot of works of the authors who come from this settlement and also the works about the settlement of Plandište and villages of Plandište settlement. In October of 2003., there was published the first monograph about a settlement in Plandište settlement, and that is the book "Serbs in Old Lec" made by Smiljana Kockar and in edition of cultural-educational community “The Chronicles of villages ”. During the year in the National library of Plandište there are held a lot of cultural manifestations- from lectures and exhibitions to literature and poetical evenings. Today the library has 1227 members, and half of them are students of primary and secondary education. Daily there are approximately 40 readers who visit the library, and during the winter months it’s even higher.
