Molovin is the last village on the north of Srem near to the border with Croatia. It ios situated not far away from Šid, three kilometers far from the road Šid – Ilok. The Srem`s village is mentioned in touristic guides firstly because of the iconostasis of the village church dedicated to St. Archangel Gavrilo.

It is about the artwork of European value which is under the protection of state. The temple of St. Archangel Gavrilo in Molovin was built in 1801., at the place of the older church which is mentioned in the report of Karlovci eparchy from 1756. It belongs to the baroque – classical style and later it was re-built. Painted decoration of the iconostasis was made in 1772. , for the church in Tovariševo, and is work by Jovan Četirević Grabanov., member of the big painting family which came from Grabovo near Ohrid. Četirević was usually called “baroque zoograph”, and Molovin iconostasis is his earliest known work. It is thought that in the same year was painted, according to art historians, “virtually done lace curving on iconostasis”. It is the work of the unknown artists, and it is supposed they came from Macedonia, and by the beautiful work, different scene iconography, many characters and richness of floral zoomorph shapes in wood and put in gold belong to “the most representative curve works of the second half of 18th century”. The engraving of Molovin iconostasis and archbishops throne, say the experts, ”could be called the lace of wood in the spirit of baroque from the south”. After the Second World War the iconostasis was profaned, and few years ago two icons were stolen. According to the Republic institution for the cultural protection , conservative works were done three times from 1970. – 1982. How the iconostasis came to Srem? The merit goes to Emperor`s institutions in Wien which allowed the bigger church in Tovariševo to be built, so the iconostasis prepared for the bigger temple ended up in Molovin.
