The citizens of Monoštor were destroying the Bodrog fortress in 1717. and built the Roman Catholic Church of its bricks. New settlers inhabited an area few kilometers further, on the less flooded ground, so in 1752. the church was moved, as well as the whole old village. The church was enlarged in 1806., and in the middle of 20th century it was declared as the cultural monument of the big importance. It has four altar paintings, one is the work of I. Lončarević and is under the state protection, as well as the statue of the Sad Mother of God, two old altars and a pulpit with the classical carvings.
