The Old park in Temerin covers an area of 20 acres and it is located near the Castle of Sečenji. In the mid 19th century, the castle became the property of the family Széchenyi Fernbah. Then their gardener Vince Sadlek converted the nearby park into a decorative garden, the arboretum. Among the gardeners who arranged the park there was a distinguished gardener Miklos Terteli from Temerin, graduated gardener who was in the 50s and 60s of the last century, almost 20 years carrying out his duty with love and care. By his hands, the park has experienced a boom. Since then both the flowers and gardens have wanished. Today the park is maintained by The Public Utility of Temerin. The park was protected in 2001, and was classified in the third category of monuments of nature.
From the large variety of tree types found in the park, the most widespread is the nettle tree or hackberry, although it is not common in the area. The fruit of this tree, plays a significant role in the diet of birds which spend the winter months in the region. The English oak occurs sporadically throughout the park but it is less common on the bank of the stream which flows near the eastern edge of the park. Beside these tree types, there are samples of white poplars, horse chestnuts, plane trees and a few Scots pines. The several yews in the park are of exceptional value, since it is a protected type of trees. Unfortunately, over last few years, some of the yews has been damaged.
Of the herbaceous plants, grass lily and dwarf periwinkle can be found in the park. In spring the ground of the park is densely covered by lesser celandine, whereas in the areas where the land is more wet common comfrey and lily-of-the-valley grow, but these plants are rarely seen. The trench, that stretches on the western side of the Castle, is covered by big ferns and small ferns.Among the animals the most numerous are birds. Nearly 70 species of birds has been seen and observed in the park. In addition to birds, the park is inhabited by amphibians. he little pond in the middle of the park also contributes to the park’s beauty and it is inhabited by a great number of fish. The park also has a running path with different exercise equipment for those who love sport and recreation.
