Grammar School is situated across from a Roman Catholic Church. It was founded in 1863. The school building, in which the school has been working so far, dates from 1888. The Grammar School is named after a painter, Uros Predic (Orlovat 1857 – Belgrade 1953), one of the most renowned Serbian representatives of the realism. He became famous for his paintings representing the historical themes, portraits and iconostases painted for the churches in Becej, Ruma, Grgeteg Monastery and the Church of Transfiguration in Pancevo. Among the numerous citizens of Pancevo who were the pupils of this school, we would like to single out Mihajlo Pupin, a world-famous scientist born in nearby Idvor. A prominent Serbian novelist and poet, Milos Crnjanski, worked in this school as a teacher.
