The Plandište municipality is situated in the south-east part of Vojvodina, more specifically south Banat, in the middle of the fertile plain. In the north, the municipality borders with Sečanj, in the west with Alibunar and Vršac in the south.

The municipality borders in the east with Romania. The Brzava river and the Danube-Tisa-Danube and Šulhov canals run through. In terms of the transport network, the municipality has a relatively favourable position. The Zrenjanin-Plandište-Vršac-Bela Crkva railway line, the Zrenjanin-Sečanj-Plandište-Vršac main road and Plandište-Alibunar-Pančevo-Beograd regional road run through the municipality.

The municipality covers an area of 383 square kilometres which is 1,8% of the total territory of Vojvodina. It is made of 14 settlements: Plandište (the municipality’s centre), Velika Greda, Hajdučica, Stari Lec, Margita, Jermenovci, Barice, Veliki Gaj, Kupinik, Miletićevo, Markovićevo, Družine, the Laudonovac hamlet and Jagodić grange. 11.334 inhabitants live in the municipality.

Germanic people, Slavs, Huns, Avars, Pannonian Bulgarians and Hungarians, Serbs (during the great nation’s movement under the Arsenije Čarnojević’s III leadership) have all lived on this territory. Five colonizations took place during the rule of Austro-Hungarian Empire (with the arrival of Germans, Spaniards, Italians and later Hungarians, Romanians, Slovaks, soldiers/volunteers from Lika, Kordun, Banija, Bosna and Hercegovina after the First World War and Macedonians, Slovenians and people from the south of Serbia after the Second World War).
