Bačka Palanka is situated on the left bank of the Danube river, 45 km upriver from Novi Sad, across the ancient town of Ilok. The municipality encompasses Obrovac, Karađorđevo, Tovariševo, Mladenovo, Čelarevo, Gajdobra, Nova Gajdobra, Silbaš, Parage, Despotovo, Pivnice and two villages in Srem – Neštin and Vizić.
The famous castle in Čelarevo, with the applied art exhibits dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries, is 10 km from Bačka Palanka. The biggest necropolis in Vojvodina is discovered in Čelarevo, with the graves from the 8th and 9th centuries and extraordinary archeological findings (gold and other precious metals, weapons, and tools).
