His ardor towards these tiny God creatures poured into a poem in prose, Prof. Jovan Živanović (1841-1916) transfers to his descendents, so the family tradition was continued by his son Žarko (1875-1933) and his grandson Borivoje (1914-1997). Today, his great-grandson Žarko united the experience of his ancestors using modern methods of beekeeping, so in this house the honey still flows. In Karlovci, in his family house and spacious yard with over 200 hives and other artifacts, used for beekeeping by his grandfather, in 1968 Borivoje Živanović established the Museum of beekeeping of the Živanović Family. He exhibited the artifacts, which can really rarely be seen today and he truly tried to make the interested visitors feel the smell of vex and propolis followed by stories of long forgotten times. Today, we can se several types of hives and many artifacts, which were used in work with bees and their products: honey, pollen, wax, propolis. There are: “istresaljka” (a tool for taking honey out of the hives) from 1876, steam melter for the wax from 1881, smoker and others. The most attractive artifact is definitely the hive in a shape of a little church from 1880. It decorated the big apiary of Jovan Živanović for years, and today, since it is very old, it is safer for it to be inside. Since new artifacts are arriving all the time, the objects which testify about the human dealing with through history, it has been planned to modernize and extend the permanent exhibition. Apart from beekeepers, this museum, unique in our country, is often visited by young people, especially by pupils of The Religious School in Karlovci and students of The University of Agriculture in Novi Sad and Zemun. The grandson of Prof. Jovan Živanović, Mr. Žarko Živanović, following the tradition of his family, takes part in making the beehive of Religious School in Karlovci. He also re-established the family tradition of making the finest wines in Sremski Karlovci, Ausbrih, Bermet, Riesling, which were sometimes served at courts. The yard of the museum of beekeeping and beehives, the garden of Živanović family house, with the grace of God, was made stronger by building an ethno-park, so that the new generations would recognize how our ancestors had in their sweat built Serbian Sion and Sremski Karlovci.
